Allen Parkway runs along the entire southern boundary of Buffalo Bayou Park. The parkway also ends just west of Sam Houston Park in downtown. Approximately 2.5 miles to the heart of downtown, the road itself is used as part of the route for the annual Chevron Houston Marathon. Concerts are also held on the south side of the bayou, next to Allen Parkway, including the official City of Houston Fourth of July fireworks celebration and concert. Upscale apartments and highrises have recently been developed along the parkway adding to its beauty. With abundant green space, jogging paths, bike trails and dog parks, no wonder this is quickly becoming the place to live!
The Washington Avenue is a mere three miles long, that was built in 1849 and was one of the first paved roads in the city of Houston. It has come a long way since 1849. Now referred to as the Washington Corridor, you can find the majority of Houstons hot spots. The Washington Corridor is to Houston as 6th Street is to Austin. Drive down Washington Avenue on a Friday or Saturday night and you can't miss the crowds. Night Clubs, wine bars, pubs, sports bars... you name it, it is there. While some like to walk from bar to bar, others opt to jump on the bus nicknamed the Washington Wave and leave the transportation to someone else. By far this is the hottest area that has hit Houston in a very long time.
