Montrose is known for its eccentricity and diversity. Its streets are lined with antique stores, second hand shops, retro furniture stores, tattoo parlors, bars and funky coffee shops and eateries. The four mile area of Montrose, west of Downtown, consists of renovated bungalows, townhomes, and a few midrises. The neighborhoods with their towering trees make it a serene setting to take a walk to the local restaurants and shopping venues.
The Houston Museum District origins trace back to 1977. The idea was to create a pedestrian-friendly district with the Museum of Fine Arts at the intersection of Bissonnet Street and Montrose Boulevard, as its core. It is home to 18 different museums, everything from fine arts, natural science, children, and weather. The Museum district also is the home of the Houston Zoo, Hermann Park and Rice University. Adjacent to the Texas Medical Center, The Museum district is conveniently located to shopping, dining, entertainment, and most of all... the arts.
